"eva longoria president obama, Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria was one of the celebrities and public figures named as a national co-chair of President Barack Obama's reelection campaign.Harold and Kumar" franchise star Kal Penn, whose real name is Kapen Modi, was also announced as part of the 35 nominees. Longoria previously campaigned for Obama and Penn left his role on "House" to serve as the associate director of the White Hosue Office of Public Engagement from 2009 to 2011.

"I'm thrilled to be a National Co-Chair for BarackObama's re-election campaign," Longoria Tweeted on February 22.

Other high profile individuals named include Caroline Kennedy -- the daughter of President John F. Kennedy -- Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel -- who was formerly the White House Chief of Staff to President Obama.

Obama made headlines earlier on Wednesday when he sang part of "Sweet Home Chicago," at an event hosted by actress Taraji P. Henson while Booker T. Jones served as music director and band leader.

The blues concert featured performances by Mick Jagger, B.B. King, Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, Jeff Beck, Gary Clark Jr., Shemekia Copeland, Buddy Guy, Warren Haynes, Keb Mo, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks.

Longoria, whose divorce with NBA player Tony Parker was finalized in 2011, opened up in November about her recent romance with Eduardo Cruz, a 26-year-old singer and the younger brother of actress Penelope Cruz.

"Love did not work with that person. But it can work with another," the actress said. "The only thing I will say is I was very lucky to find Edu."
The nearly three dozen re-election committee “co-chairs” named by President Barack Obama Wednesday are an interesting indication of the incumbent’s strategic thinking as his campaign shifts into high gear. Taken together, the appointees are a roadmap not just to where the president and his political advisers see his support, but also to where they hope to deepen or extend it.

Two of the 35 nominees — Eva Longoria and Harold and Kumar star Kal Penn (real name Kalpen Modi) are longtime and unwavering Obama supporters. She vigorously campaigned for him last time around and he actually served for a time as associate director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. Their appointment recognizes not simply their personal loyalty to the president, but also the importance Obama and his political strategists attach to Hollywood in this crucial stage of their reelection effort. They’ll be looking to the entertainment industry for both contributions and high visibility celebrity endorsements of the sort both Longoria and Penn provide.
President Barack Obama has taken a lot of heat these days, but he does have Eva Longoria’s complete support.

Longoria recently revealed to Jimmy Kimmel that she is supportive of what Obama is going through right now as he is trying to fix problems that existed when he took office, states RadarOnline.com. Longoria commented that Obama has “been governing in a state of emergency since he took office.”

She feels like the U.S. citizens haven’t gotten to see what he is capable of just yet: “I’m a big Obama supporter no matter what he’s been through — he’s been beaten up the past couple of years.”

Do you agree with Longoria?
