Teen Angst Meets the Maybe-Supernatural in First Trailer for 'The Moth Diaries'
Based on Rachel Klein's 2002 novel of the same name, "The Moth Diaries" sets up a nifty triangle between three girls at gorgeous and confining boarding school. Rebecca (Sarah Bolger) and Lucy (Sarah Gadon) are best friends and roommates, and their bond appears unbreakable - until the mysterious Ernessa (Lily Cole) arrives at the school. Lucy and Ernessa take to each other immediately, leaving Rebecca out in the cold. Distraught by her slipping grip on her best friend, Rebecca works herself into a tizzy - one that culminates with her believing that Ernessa's hold on Lucy isn't entirely of this earth.
The central question of "The Moth Diaries" appears to be not whether or not Ernessa is a vampire (as Rebecca comes to believe, thanks to her frazzled emotions and apparently the teachings of a lit professor, played by Scott Speedman) but whether or not Rebecca is nuts. A possible hint? The titular "Moth Diaries" appear to refer to a diary that Rebecca keeps, one that is primarily focused on Lucy. Has Rebecca's affection for Lucy gone too far, and has that resulted in her thinking that an innocent transfer student is a bloodsucker? We'll have to see.
"The Moth Diaries" will get a limited release on April 20. Watch the film's trailer, thanks to Yahoo! Movies, after the break.
